Meet Cute (Love Story Part i)

I have seen a lot of bloggers writing their LOVE stories lately that I found it appropriate to start sharing ours as well.
(For our lovely readers and for Posterity)

I chose today to begin or story because on August 28th, 2010, Kevin and I met for the very first time!

Happy 3 Years from our "Meet Cute" Mr. Ford.

It was a regular busy Saturday and I was working at AT&T at The University Mall in Orem helping customer after customer.

I noticed a young man walk in, in what appeared to be golf attire and I immediately passed judgment thinking to myself, "Boy I hope I don't have to help this rich kid who just wants to see if he can upgrade on Daddy's account 3 months after he got an iPhone!"

(Now for the interjection)
Yes, that was VERY judgmental of me.
You have to understand in the cell phone industry you make money on selling new accounts or upgrading or selling accessories, and EVERYONE, throughout the long days standing on their feet passes judgment on people coming in.
They might be a bill pay, or have questions, or want a Pay as You Go Phone, or the worst... "Oh, I'm just looking".
Now any good sales rep would tell you they could turn any of those situations into a money making transaction and I would agree... However, on this particular Saturday, at this particular time in my life, I was not interested in boys or making money.
I just simply wanted to make it through the day!
Kevin's turn was up and I ended up being the representative to help him.
(I think that was plotted by my fellow MALE employee's who were always sending the handsome young men my way
#singlegirlinprovoproblems)
I don't remember too many details about the beginning of our meet except that Kevin only wanted to activate a phone he had received as a birthday present and not buy ANY ACCESSORIES.
(He did end up porting his existing number from Sprint so it did count as a new activation for me!)
I knew it was going to take a long time to get the number ported (about 45 minutes) so I was "casually" google chatting some friends while we waited for the customer service rep on the phone to do the port.
I am sure Kevin made casual conversation and I politely replied with a yes or no and some smiles here and there but I don't remember ANYTHING that we talked about.
Finally, his phone was activated.
I did my normal customer satisfaction setup routine to make sure his phone was ready to go and showed him how to use it. My final step was to make a test call.
I pulled out my phone, dialed his number and it rang!

"Thank you Mr Ford for coming in today! Is there anything else I can help you with?"
"Well, I was wondering if you would like to go out sometime?"
(Insert complete shock face on me and onlooking Male Coworkers laughing)
"Sure" I bashfully responded.
"Great, Can I get your number?"
"It's already in your phone from the test call!"
"Great. Have a Good day!"

I DO Remember EVERY MOMENT after he left the store.
Instant fear/excitement/embarrassment (mostly due to the heckling of my co-workers).
I did what any normal girl would do and group texted my three roommates, Aubrey, Jessica & Brooke!
"Some guy just asked me out while I was at work!"
"Is he cute?"
"Good for you!"
"Yay!"
Of course I then had to FACEBOOK stalk him a little and try to find out more about him before he called to make sure I wasn't going out with a weirdo.
(Because in California I didn't get random people asking me out on dates while I worked)
Facebook revealed he was almost 27 (older in Provo Singles years - so why wasn't he married?) and that we had one friend in common, a crazy kid who lived in the same apartment complex as me.
Awesome.
He had lots of pictures and from what I could see he seemed sweet, fun and adventurous.
He had served a mission, graduated from BYU and was a few years into his "Grown Up"
career.

He liked to hike, travel, had good friends and a good family.

I spent that evening with my girlfriends wondering when he would call!
The next day? Three days? A week? Never!?

I was surprisingly pleased when my phone rang 24 hours later and 'Kevin Ford' popped up on my screen.
I was at a family birthday dinner and screened his call
(Not without all my girlfriends and even some family members harassing me to answer it of course)
I excused myself to the porch where I listened to the voicemail that said he wanted to take me out the following week.
I was so excited but dreaded calling him back because I was leaving Friday to go home to Sacramento.
I called him back right away so he didn't think I wasn't interested and explained that I was headed out of town and worked nights the rest of the week.
At first it sounded like the thought I wasn't interested but then I told him that if he didn't mind going out late, I was free ANY night after I got off work.
He liked that idea.
We set a plan to go on our first date that Thursday before I headed out of town.

I was so excited and couldn't wait to get to know more about this boy!

(Begin butterflies in the stomach for DAYS preparing for the first date)

_____________

Now for A quick "Kevin's side of the story" of our Meet Cute:

I simply wanted to setup my new IPhone on a plan. I was being smart and getting friends on board so I could get a family plan discount. I walked into the AT&T store at the University Mall, and a redhead approached me. I immediately took notice to her red hair and her tight black stretchy pants. She asked how she could help, and we got started on a 45 minute process to setup my phone. I was making conversation and flirting a little, and she honestly did not smile at all for 20 minutes. Finally, after I had bored her for 20 minutes, I must've got lucky and said something funny, because she smiled huge and her dimples popped out. It was at that moment that I suddenly decided I would ask her out. No big deal, I'd done it 5 million other times. I had my repertoire of dates to select from. She had already put her number into my phone, so it was easy. I called the next day, and she didn't answer. I figured she was shutting me down when she said she was going to California that weekend.
I figured I'd "force" her to go on a date with me, and said I could pick up he after work in a few days before she left.
So that's what we did.

________

Up Next, The First Date.
